Emotional Support: Offering reassurance, answering questions, and providing emotional support throughout the pregnancy.
Educational Support: Providing information on pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care, helping the mother understand her options and make i nformed decisions.
Birth Planning: Assisting in the creation of a birth plan, outlining the mother’s preferences for labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
Physical Support: Suggesting exercises, relaxation techniques, and other physical preparations for labor. Some doulas might also provide prenatal massage or other forms of physical comfort.
Communication: Helping facilitate communication between the mother, her partner, and healthcare providers to ensure everyone is on the same page.
Resource Referral: Offering recommendations for additional resources, such as childbirth classes, lactation consultants, or mental health professionals.
Advocacy: Empowering the mother to advocate for her needs and preferences during prenatal visits and, later, during labor and delivery.
